their families and the families of those who've been recently
incarcerated.
With three part-time members,
last year Cooke managed 175 cases. |

JANUARY
6, 2006
Although it was for a gathering
that stemmed from the loss of a political icon in the Austin community,
Latreese Cooke attended the services and spent time with
several local dignitaries Congresswoman
Maxine Waters and Ambassador Sidney Williams.
You will be seeing the interaction
of our office with Congresswoman Waters in the very near
future. Congresswoman Waters
introduced me and visited with Reverend Jesse
Jackson regarding future endeavors of the organization. Congresswoman
Waters and husband Ambassador Sidney Williams are featured
once again in the JET Magazine. |

TEXAS
WOMEN'S CONFERENCE
Our organization was
honored for the opportunity to participate as
an exhibitor in the 6th Annual Texas
Women's Conference. This conference was held at
the Austin Convention Center on October 21, 2005.
By participating in this event, we were able to
network with other organizations and individuals
for future business contacts.
Although the focus of this
event was business related, the staff was given time to
walk around and explore the sights of around 100 exhibitors
and 100 vendors. Our executive director, Latreese Cooke,
had the privilege of hearing Maya Angelou, the most popular
speaker at the daylong conference. Other well known speakers
included Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and actress
Cheryl Ladd. It was a wonderful experience and we look
forward to participating in this event again next year! |
