2008 Fundraiser at FED EX-Kinkos PGA Golf Championship

MEEELJ was selected via Prom Management to be the concession stand help at the FED EX Kinkos PGA Golf Championship held at the Hills of Lakeway on April 28th-May 4th. Even though we couldn’t meet the demand to staff all the stands we did have a BUSY GREAT TIME! (smiles)

We met some wonderful pro golfers, caddies and new support for this organization. There were many players who were impressed by our work ethic and the organization's work. And because of that, many gave me their contact information to get them to sponsor or do an event here to solely benefit MEEELJ. It was hard work, but in my mind fun and rewarding. I personally have never had an experience that didn’t afford me the opportunity to learn something for the future.

Among the many people to thank in this office one particularly has really worked hard to get and keep things together: Katie Richards. I have to give her a lot of credit in working to make sure that there was coverage—and this was a little difficult since she had mandatory training the full week of the event. So, please help me in saying a big thank you to Katie. Also, those children of mine who seem to show up when I need them most, Samirrah and Quione (who left finals at U of H to help out!!) thank you!! My husband, Khalif –thanks for your support. Katie’s parents were out there for 3 of the 7 days and worked endlessly. Big shout out to them.

We made over $400.00 in tips alone and that was especially remarkable since we were not allowed to have “tip” jars on the counters. Hopefully the next time around we will receive more participation from volunteers so that we can cover the whole event and raise more funds to support our mission of helping young people excel.
