At-Home Training Project

Smithville First United Methodist Church, AMOS Commission

Purpose: To provide on-line education and/or job training for parents, with limited education and/or vocational skills, caring for children at home. Regular mentoring and/or tutoring would be required.

Prospective Participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum age of 17
  • Referral through Combined Community Action or equivalent agency qualifying for services because of limited income, SSI, or eligible for food stamps or other public assistance.  MEEELJ is one of these agencies.
  • Caring for one or more young children
  • Normal ability
  • Strong desire for further education or training
  • Able to self-direct, set goals and follow through
  • Be accountable to mentor for progress
  • Willing and able to take tests of achievement, abilities (intellectual, vocational) and interests
  • Quiet study area with space for computer
  • Internet Service Provider available
  • Resident within Smithville ISD (negotiable)
  • The AMOS Commission will loan computers and pay fees for a limited number of eligible participants. Applications can  be obtained from our office at 1106 College Street Bastrop, TX
